Blanket Care

Routine Blanket Care

Regular cleaning is required to help extend the useful life of your valuable blanket or sheet.  Brushing and hosing will only remove surface dirt.  Manure and urine reduce the strength and life of garments.  Ammonia in urine and manure will leave permanent stains and break down the fabric, making it easier for the garment to be torn.  Storing a dirty blanket during the summer IS NOT recommended.  The sun and heat will bake the ammonia into the blanket and permanently damage your expensive horse clothing.  When you are ready to store your blanket for the summer, we'll provide a good cleaning and a garment storage bag to protect your horse clothes during the off season.

Has your blanket lost its water repellency?  Over time, the ability of your horsewear to shed water can decline due to simple abrasion and wear.  We recommend that the water proofing be "refreshed" after two years of wear for all garments.  However, if your blanket has been laundered using a detergent cleaner or if your horse is particularly rough on his clothing, you may need to re-waterproof the garment sooner.
